LOVE IN FIVE THOUSAND YEARS
by Fernand Kolney
adapted by Brian Stableford

cover by Jean-Felix Lyon

Confined in the next cell, imprisoned by the virtue of the Grand Procreator's cerebral waves, Phegor, the unnatural son of bottle 1324, contemplated his neighbors through the transparent wall...

Love in Five Thousand Years (1908) belongs to the brief surge of ambitious French romans scientifiques that followed the enthusiastic publication of H.G. Wells' novels in France around the turn of the century.

In a futuristic post-apocalyptic world, thousand of years after the Martians, disgusted by Earth's bloody history, almost exterminated the Human Race, births are all achieved through artificial insemination and love has been banished. But things start going awry when the Grand Procreator uses ancient corrupt seeds dating back to the 20th century and old human impulses reawaken, ultimately leading to the end of the world...

Fernand Kolney, writer and polemicist, anarchist and specialist in the erotic literature of the 17th and 18th centuries penned one of the most bizarre romans scientifiques ever, striving in every possible way to boggle the mind and frequently succeeding.
