Thanks to our “Classics” reprints, we present here a sampler of two original series from the 1960s featuring WWII heroes, war comics being then just as popular in France as they were in the U.S. and Great Britain. 

* Rick Ross, a.k.a. Baroud, created by Mario Cubbino in 1965, appeared its own eponymous magazine, which lasted 56 issues until January 1970. The series was obviously influenced by the movie The Great Escape, starring Steve McQueen, which had just been released in France the year before. The character recently returned in The Partisans.

* Dan Diamond, created by Giorgio Trevisan in 1968, is a fearless agent of the Office of Strategic Services, created in 1942 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
